Gayla Johnson

Gayla Johnson is breaking color-lines through comedy with a unique approach to revealing cultural differences between black and white relations. She’s sharing values, beliefs and a host of experiences. Her exceptional style and range of comedy ability is true to her nature.

Gayla first tried her “mic technique” by reporting the news. It turned out less glamorous then expected. She was employed with KCPM-TV as a News writer, KCHO-Radio as the "Daily Calendar" announcer and KHSL-Radio as a roving reporter interviewing the public. She’s worked as a news writer and researcher for KTTV-Fox CH 11, KWHY CH 22, KHJTV and KFWB News. Nice jobs, crappy self-expression.

After achieving her B.A. in Communications, Gayla entered into the realm of Stand-up Comedy having found no satisfaction in most any “other any realm”. She is quoted as saying, "It’s tough to keep a corporate job, when you’re funny". Four years wasted in college? Or were they? And who wants a J.O.B. anyway?! That stands for JUST OVER BROKE! Disheartened, she realized “degrees” aren't everything, high school dropouts are making millions, they’re called, entrepreneurs, rappers, or pimps.

It was Connie Chung who influenced her towards the ART OF “COMMUNICATION”, and Lucille Ball toward the “ART OF COMEDY”. Connie had poise, Lucy was clumsy, Connie had a classic, controlled manner, Lucy was intuitive, and playfully made mistakes, Connie showed professional proficient standards, Lucy was unorthodox and tricky, Gayla endeavored to become both of them, creative, expressive, playful, rich and on TV!
